FXU VIBE is a unique NZ award-winning exercise studio based in Upper Hutt, Wellington, offering fun fast and functional fitness training using Power Plate machines.

From the humble beginnings of working out of a tiny room at a local pool complex to now having a thriving bespoke studio with six Power Plate pro5 machines, two Personal Power Plate machines, and staffed by several exceptional trainers, FXU VIBE has come a long way.

Monique Ballinger started FXU VIBE after literally having a dream to get a “vibe” machine. The dream evolved into an action plan that brought together Monique’s personal training and life coaching skills. The result is a unique environment designed for all ages and all abilities to reclaim “body, mind and soul”. The drawcard for Monique in investing in a business using vibration technology was the fact that the results that people were experiencing were real and life-changing – particularly people with medical pathologies, debilitating conditions, and mobility challenges.

About Monique Ballinger
FXU VIBE Director: Personal Trainer & Mobility Specialist

Monique has been in the exercise industry for the last 18 years. She gained her diploma in Exercise Science in 2005 and worked as a personal trainer before managing a couple of gyms, one of which introduced her to exercising on a vibration plate.

Monique started her business FXU VIBE in April 2013 with one light commercial vibration plate in a shared facility and within a year had her own studio and 4 commercial Power Plate machines. FXU VIBE grew to have 6 commercial machines and 2 portables, which made FXU VIBE the largest vibration exercise studio in NZ.

FXU VIBE won an award in 2018 at the NZ Fitness Industry Awards, for working with chronic illness. Since then, Monique watched FXU VIBE organically grow and it became an exercise provider for all bodies.

Due to covid and big overheads, Monique made the hard decision to close her large studio in Upper Hutt’s CBD at the end of July 2022. She has since opened a smaller, boutique studio working from her home in Heretaunga Park, Upper Hutt. She has 2 large Power Plates and one portable for mobile training. Monique decided to go back to doing what she loves, working on her own, as a Personal Trainer and Mobility Specialist. She has since extended her specialised knowledge nationally, now helping clients with their recovery via the online platform, Zoom,

Monique continues to work alongside one of her previous trainers Fiona, in a weekly visit to a private hospital. Monique and Fiona instruct musical movement sessions for dementia residents and those challenged with extreme mental conditions. They feel truly blessed to be able to make a difference in people’s lives.

Monique’s passion is people! Providing a safe and fun environment for people to exercise, heal and reclaim their lives, no matter what that looks like. Her mantra is ‘you’ll never know what’s possible until you try the impossible’ She can be rather bossy as a personal trainer but states she’s just being ‘positively assertive’ when instructing exercise or functional movement. She’s always up for a sing, dance, chat and is a Chief Hugger.
